Observations from a 10am service attendee Yesterday in the service we were encouraged to wait on God and listen to Him in the middle of our focused worship. Well, Jesus said to me “Draw closer.” So this morning I’m thinking about drawing closer to Jesus. During the service I was sitting far back in the pews and no one came forward to do the prayers. If I’d been sitting further forward, drawn closer, it would have been easier for me to volunteer to lead the prayers. Then I may have told us all what God had said to me. I may have prayed for all of us to draw closer. I pray now: “Lord, may we draw closer to You. May we follow You where You lead us. May we say what You want us to say and do what You want us to do as we sung yesterday. May we participants of St. Barnabas, draw closer to You by waiting on You, by reading and meditating on Your Word. As we increase in our knowledge ofJesus may we be closer in our imitation of Jesus and our effectiveness and fruitfulness in the world. Amen.” So what will I do to draw closer to our Father today? And tomorrow? My drawing closer today is based in a prayer around 2Pe 1:2-8: May grace and peace be multiplied to me/us/St. Barnabas in the knowledge of God, The Father and of Jesus our Lord. His divine power has granted to us/St. Barnabas all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us/me to His own glory and excellence, by which He has granted to me/us His precious promises and His very great promises, so that through them you/we may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire. For this very reason: May we make every effort to supplement our faith with virtue May we be diligent with virtue and with knowledge, May we supplement our faith with knowledge and with self-control, May we be diligent with self-control and with steadfastness, May we supplement our faith with steadfastness and with godliness, May we be diligent with godliness and with brotherly affection, May we supplement our faith with brotherly affection and with love. May we be diligent with love. For if these qualities are ours, and if these qualities are increasing, they keep me from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For if these qualities are mine, and if these qualities are increasing, they will make me effective, they will make me fruitful in knowing my Lord, my Jesus, my Christ. knowing The Boss, The Saviour, The Anointed/Chosen/Appointed One Amen. Today I’m going to supplement my faith with self-control with the help of the Holy Spirit. Today I’m going to be diligent to be self-controlled with the help of the Holy Spirit. Spirit of Holiness help me I pray. Amen.
