Our certainty is based on facts not feelings This is a brief summary (easy to remember – 3 W’s) of the certainty we can all have that we belong to God. I would be happy to explain this further to anyone who is struggling to know that they have an assured relationship with Jesus. Fact 1: The Word of God the Father (The Bible).
John 10: 27, 28 Jesus says: “My sheep listen to my voice; I know then and they follow me. I give them eternal life and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.” Our assurance is based on his holding on to us and not us clinging to him. Revelation 3:20 “I stand at the door and knock. If any one hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in”. Jesus says: I will come in not I might come in. If you’ve opened the door to Jesus he has come in to stay. That is a fact not a feeling. There are many other places where the word of God assures us of our salvation. Fact 2: The Work of God the Son. Jesus is the one who has taken away the sin of the world. There is nothing we can contribute to our salvation except the sins form which we need to be saved. Our assurance is based on what he has done for us not what we do for him. Fact 3: The Witness of God the Spirit Romans 8:16 “The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children” When we trust what the Bible says and what Jesus has done for us, we are given this deep inner assurance in our spirits.
